Part of city-wide effort to cut costs
If the uncollected garbage bags and unemptied recycling bins are any indication, the city of Montreal has learned Christmas and garbage don't mix.
"It may be that some boroughs waited too long to send out the notices," said Marcel Tremblay, the Montreal executive committee member in charge of city cleanliness, referring to the efforts made by several city boroughs to tell their residents about changes to garbage and recycling pick-up schedules scheduled to go into effect at the end of December and the start of January, "But we also took out ads in local newspapers and put the information on the city's website.
"Clearly, we're going to have to rethink how we do these things."
