While no one would dispute the cities lofty ideals in greening the Vieux-Port with its European vision of pedestrian malls and public transportation, the current architect of this dossier should be given an failing grade for both the plan and its execution.

For a start one does not implement radical changes to public transportation and then call for a "sondage" of opinions. It is quite obvious that those responsible spent little time in the neighborhoods where the results of their decrees were enacted unless they are totally blind or oblivious to the chaos that they have created.

Artificially narrowing city streets and increasing permanent bike paths does nothing to facilitate the lives of the majority of our citizens in from December to April nor does reorganization of transportation facilities to appease a transient population during festivals at the expense of those who pay taxes to support the continual renewal of the Old Port.

Are there any educated bureaucrats left that can sit down and examine the whole portrait rather than trying to micromanage little pieces of a very complex puzzle? Let's sit down with all concerned parties and get practical.
